Hot Tub Has No Power: What to Check
When the spa display is dead, start with the simplest things: the breaker, the GFCI and the disconnect. Anything beyond that is for a licensed technician.
Electrical safety: the spa's electrical equipment can cause serious injury or death. Before you touch anything near the equipment, turn the spa off at its breaker or disconnect. Do not open the equipment cover, control box or panel. Wiring, breakers, GFCIs, heaters and control boxes must be repaired by a licensed electrician or qualified technician.
If you feel tingling or a shock: get out of the water, stay out, and keep others out. Do not touch the spa or its equipment. For smoke or fire, call 911 first, then call us.
Safe checks you can do
- Confirm the display is fully off, not just dim.
- Find the spa's breaker in the main panel. If it sits in the middle, switch it fully off, then back on.
- Press the GFCI reset once, then check the display again.
- Check that the disconnect (the switch box near the spa, if there is one) is switched on. Look only. Do not open any covers.
- Check with your neighbors or the utility's outage map. A spa circuit is usually on its own, so other outlets will not tell you much.
Stop and call us if
- The breaker or GFCI will not reset, or trips again straight away.
- The panel or breaker feels warm, smells of burning, or looks discolored.
- The spa lost power suddenly while it was running, and the checks above do not bring it back.
During storms and outages
- Leave the spa off until the power is steady. Power surges can damage the equipment.
- Once power is back, run the checks above once. If the spa still does not work, call us.
